Surfaces to run on

Hi and welcome back!

If you have a radio controlled car, or if you are thinking of buying one, you probably need information about the surfaces you can run on.

Do you need advice to prepare your car properly? We explain everything you need to know.

A good radio control car maintenance

Before getting into the matter, it is important that you perform good maintenance on the RC car.

If vehicle is in perfect condition,  you will be able to run with total safety wherever you want. Regular maintenance is necessary.

The usual maintenance is basically to clean all the components of the radio control car.

You must begin cleaning the outer most parts and then, dissemble the vehicle to access to inner parts.

It’s very important to use the right products for cleaning the different vehicle parts, otherwise it can be damaged during the process.

Surfaces for radio control vehicles

There is a wide variety of surfaces on which to enjoy your new hobby. It depends on  how far you want to travel to try new things…

  • At home
  • On the beach or sand
  • In Dirt or mud
  • On asphalt or cement
  • On grass
  • On rocks or on a mountain
  • On ice or snow

This is a short list, because you can enjoy RC cars in your own way and without limits!

Information required to choose different surfaces to run on

One of the most relevant things to take into account are the wheels, since they are the ones in charge of the grip. But it’s not the only issue to take into consideration!

Find more information  below:

Smooth surfaces

They are all the surfaces that do not pose a problem for the suspension but they usually leave more residues.

In this category we can find surfaces such as sand, earth and even grass.

Cars larger than 1/10 scale are required, preferably off-road or tall enough not to run aground.

RC buggy cars are a very good option!!

It is very likely that you will need to change the wheels to ones with knobs for more grip.

Hard surfaces

They are surfaces as asphalt, cement, or even rocks.

The scale here varies from one to anotherr; the maintenance after running on this surface is lower.

On asphalt or concrete the scale is not too crucial.

You can also use any type of radio control vehicle to race on these surfaces, but drift cars are especially fun on asphalt.

For running on rocks, it is best to have an ATV with big wheels and good grip.

Dare to try them all!

Special surfaces

We are referring to ice, snow and mud, for example.

You will need a 1/10 scale car, preferably off-road, and with special preparation.

In the case of snow or ice, you will probably need chains for the wheels because the grip is greatly affected.

For the mud, you need to know that you will have to do a very thorough cleaning of the RC car once you are done.

In any case, check the parts of your RC car before and after racing on these surfaces.
