All about electric radio control motor

Hi and welcome back!

There are many components to consider when maintaining and upgrading your RC car.

One of the most important parts is the engine.

Do you want to know everything about the electric RC motor? Keep in reading until the end!!

Radio control engine components

The RC motor is vehicle’s heart, since it is what gives makes the car run.

But there are many other parts!

Without the wheels, it would be impossible the support to the ground and the traction. For that reason, they always have to be adapted to the environment in which they run.

The shock absorbers are responsible for stabilizing and receiving the impacts of the earth or asphalt.

Without a fully operational and charged RC car battery, the car would not work. So it’s always handy to have a spare battery on hand.

And  what about the bodywork? It allows you to customize your car and influences its aerodynamics.

Upgrade parts and accessories have to go hand in hand with your engine, to get a machine that works perfectly.

Types of radio control motors: brushed y brushless

Did you know that there are two different types of electric RC motors?

You can find more information about them below.

RC brushed motor

They also receive the name of electric motor with brushes (hence its name in English).

The brushes of this motor are connected to a commutator to cause the rotor to change its polarity.

In short: they are responsible for mechanically switching the current of the motor windings.

Its system is simpler, since it has fewer electronic elements, usually more sensitive.

The benefit of these motors is that they are much cheaper, making them ideal for beginners in every way.

RC brushless Motor

In this case, brushless refers to the electric motor without brushes.

Having no brushes, the process mentioned above is done through a motor controller and magnets.

The current passes directly through the winding, creating a magnetic field that, together with that of the magnets, makes the rotor rotate.

Some of the advantages of this type of motor are:

  • Increased life cycle
  • Less maintenance
  • More efficient
  • Optimum power output per size ratio
  • Higher speed

However, these motors have a high price, since they are more complex than brushed motors.

If despite the explanation you still cannot understand the difference, we leave you an explanatory video.

Bonzai radio control vehicle engine

At RC Bonzai we continue betting on Brushed motors because we want to make cars accessible to everyone.

Within our range of electric RC motors, you will find the Brushed 390 motor, and the Brushed S550.

All of our cars are built with the Brushed S390 V2 engine but we are constantly reviewing parts for improving them.

And the new RC Bonzai vehicles, Phantom and Kraze RC, ride a Brused S540!

Now that you have a better understanding of how RC motors work,  try to make improvements to your remote control vehicle.
